Jon Derrick Marshal was ordained a Baptist Minister from 1991 to 1997, before enrolling in the Canadian Forces as a Protestant Chaplain serving various squadrons as unit chaplain. In 2003, Padre Marshal served as unit chaplain to Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering, and to Second Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment. During that time he was deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan, as the Senior Chaplain. After promotion to Major in 2006, he became acting Brigade Chaplain. He holds a Masters of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry. His study of Ethics at Saint Paul University/University of Ottowa resulted in his final paper winning the 2008 Jean-Guy LeMarier Prize in Ethics.
