The annual competition, founded in 2018, invites authors to pen essays, opinion pieces, poetry, short stories, and graphic novels on leadership, culture, and ethics in Defence. Jamie Cullens founded the Centre for Defence Leadership and Ethics (CDLE) and served in the Infantry for 19 years. He was the first Director of the Centre for Defence Leadership Studies and championed the education and training of ADF and APS members in military ethics and leadership. Winners receive book vouchers for first, second, and third place in each category. The views expressed in the literary works hosted on the site are the authors' own and do not necessarily reflect the views or policies of the Australian Government or Defence.
