War College Papers

As part of the Joint Operations Planning module of the Australian Command and Staff Course (ACSC), students are tasked to research and submit a paper on a given topic. The works that follow represent some of the best writing during the course.

The papers are the original work of the authors, and although selected as quality papers, they should not be taken as the position or view of the Australian War College (AWC) or the Department of Defence. We hope you enjoy this selection of papers.

The Australian War College (AWC) delivers world-class Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) focused on leadership, joint warfighting, operations and strategy through the delivery of a range of courses. Its courses have a strong practitioner focus that provides the knowledge, awareness and skills to operate at the highest levels of command and leadership.

The College delivers courses via a range of learning modes, both online, residential and a blend of the two, over periods from a year-long to short courses of several weeks. These modes of learning reflect the needs of modern Defence Forces, and modern pedagogy, and allow maximisation of access to PME across the enterprise. Many courses attract civilian university qualifications (or credits toward further study) from Masters to Graduate Certificate level.
