Interagency Collaboration: Reality vs Rhetoric

JPME encourages us to think beyond Service and even beyond Defence. But when it comes to real operations, interagency coordination can be clunky or patchy. What works, what doesn’t, and what should we be teaching and practising more?

Other agencies often have a stereotypical view of what the ADF is and can do. They have specific expectations of what the ADF brings to a situation, and these can sometimes be limited or wrong. In my experience personnel from other Agencies can be extremely capable at working in fluid situations. They also have a profound understanding of Australian Government expectations (fewer layers of command between themselves and their relevant Federal Minister).
