The Forge is proud to publish a new Defence Values Learning Package series by Chaplain (CHAP) Darren Cronshaw. These five short, self-paced modules explore the Australian Defence Force’s core values—Service, Courage, Respect, Integrity, and Excellence—through historical examples, contemporary stories, reflective exercises, and thought-provoking scenarios. Designed to take less than 30 minutes each, they are suitable for individual reflection or for use in team-based Professional Military Education sessions.
Each module invites Defence members to engage personally with what it means to live the values they represent. Whether reflecting on Teddy Sheean’s heroism, Jacqueline Kiplimo’s compassion, or the quiet professionalism of CPO “Buck” Rogers, these packages blend history, ethics, and leadership into accessible lessons on character formation. Learners are encouraged to develop their “muscle memory” for ethical decision-making through short “reps and sets” exercises—practical prompts that turn values into daily habits.
Together, the Defence Values series offers a versatile PME resource for leaders and learners alike. It exemplifies the ADF’s ongoing commitment to character development and ethical leadership, grounding professional excellence in the moral foundations of service to others. The Forge thanks CHAP Cronshaw for this valuable contribution to the continuing education of Defence professionals.
