Will Nichols

Will Nichols is a senior public servant with nearly two decades of experience across multiple Commonwealth portfolios. In 2025, he was selected to attend the Defence and Strategic Studies Course (DSSC) at the Australian War College, an appointment reserved for leaders with the potential to influence defence and national security policy. During the course, Will focused on civilian–military approaches to complex crises and graduated with a Master of National Security and Strategy from Deakin University. He was awarded the Deakin Academic Principles Research Prize for his thesis. Will has also received a Gold Commendation for his leadership in developing the Defence Future Energy Strategy, the Clean Energy Acceleration Plan, and for his work establishing and advancing the National Fuel Council. Following DSSC, he continues to contribute to Australia’s national security priorities as a Director in Defence’s Security and Estate Group.
