Professor Beatrice Heuser (born 15 March 1961, Bangkok) is a historian and political scientist specialising in strategic studies. She held the Chair of International Relations at the University of Glasgow until autumn 2024. She obtained a B.A. in History from Bedford College, an M.A. in International History from the London School of Economics, and a D.Phil. in Political Science from the University of Oxford, along with a Higher Doctorate from the University of Marburg.
Her research focuses on war, strategy and strategic theory—particularly nuclear strategy and strategic culture—as well as transatlantic relations and the defence and foreign policies of the UK, France, and Germany. She has held academic posts at King’s College London, University of Reading, and institutions across Europe and has served in visiting or adjunct roles, including at the Free University of Brussels and the Australian Defence College. She is the author of many books and articles that examine how ideas of warfare and strategy evolve over time.
