Wing Commander Alice Paton graduated from the Australian Defence Force Academy in 2001 and completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Aeronautical) at the Australian Defence Force Academy in 2002. In 2010 she completed a Master of Systems Engineering at the University of New South Wales (ADFA) and in 2023 an Advanced Master of Defence and Military Studies at the Australian National University, with a research project into the cause of strategic divergence in the interwar period. She has had a diverse career in engineering, maintenance, combat support, strategic planning, and innovation, and in addition to her primary role is a Sir Richard Williams Scholar conducting PhD research into principal-agent problems in Defence.
